Jeff is an executive compensation consultant and attorney with experience assisting public, privately held, private equity, and non-profit organizations. Jeff joined Compensation & Benefit Solutions, LLC in March 2011 while completing his LL.M. in Taxation at the University of Denver. Since joining Compensation & Benefit Solutions, Jeff has focused primarily on assisting oil & gas, mining, and private equity backed companies in evaluating, designing, and administering compensation programs and incentive plans. In addition, Jeff has focused on developing his technical expertise to assist clients with Internal Revenue Code sections 409A, 280G, and 162(m) matters as they arise in the development and administration of compensation plans.
Jeff’s work with clients in the oil & gas and mining industries has taught him the importance of designing compensation programs and incentive plans that continue to incentive employees without putting companies at risk for unsustainable compensation costs when commodity prices are no longer favorable. His experience helping to administer plans on an employee level has provided him with invaluable insight into what benefits are truly valued by the employees, and his work with management has helped him to better understand what benefit costs are sustainable while providing direct links to company growth and profitability. Jeff now utilizes these experiences to help better design and implement compensation plans across all industries that continue to motivate employees while also aligning with company performance goals.
Jeff’s introduction to the executive compensation field shortly after the introduction of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act provided him with an opportunity to develop expertise in the newly formulated pay-for-performance analyses being introduced by the various institutional shareholder representative companies. Since then, Jeff has been able to assist many of his clients with mock pay-for-performance analyses in order to proactively identify potential problematic pay practices prior to proxy season and Say on Pay votes. Additionally, Jeff has been able to assist clients with drafting of compensation disclosure narratives in order to better address potential shareholder concerns prior to Say on Pay votes.
Jeff received his undergraduate degree from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, his J.D. from Stetson University College of Law, and his LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Denver. Jeff has been admitted to both the Florida Bar and Colorado Bar. In his free time, Jeff can often be found failing in his attempts to exhaust his Rhodesian Ridgeback, Zuri.
